Ethiopia: New Edible Oil Plant Starts Trial Production

debremarkos-oil-plantA new edible oil plant at Ethiopia's town of Debre Markos has started trial production. The plant, built at a cost of five billion birr (close to $121.7 million), hopes to ease the rise in demand for edible oil in Ethiopia.

Agegnehu Teshager, chief administrator of the Amhara region where the plant is located, visited the plant. The plant has the capacity of fulfilling fifty percent of the national demand for edible oil.

The edible oil plant, owned by the investor Wokru Aytenew, has so far created employment for 1,300 people and will employ as many as 3,000 workers when it starts production at full capacity.
