Ethiopia's Messebo Cement Goes Back Operational

messebo-productsMessebo Cement in Ethiopia's Tigray region has resumed production after it had suspended operations for four months due to fighting in the area following the government's law enforcing operations. Melaku Alebel, Ethiopia's Minister of Trade, said Messebo Cement Plant has started supplying products in a bid to stabilize the cement market.

Cement prices had spiked in recent weeks. However, following "strict" measures the Ministry of Trade took, the price of cement per quintal has gone down to 420 birr from 600 birr in Addis Ababa, Mr. Melaku related. The minister further pointed out efforts are underway to further bridge the gap between demand and supply of cement.
