Ethiopia, Kenya Inaugurate 500 Km Road Joining Them, and Moyale One-Stop Border Post

kenyatta-abiy-inaugurate-moyale-roadEthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta have inaugurated the 500-kilometer Hawassa-Hagere Mariam-Moyale Road which is part of the Trans African Highway and a key segment of the Mombassa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa transport corridor, and also the Moyale One-Stop Border Post.

The two leaders pointed out that this and other joint infrastructure projects are "key ingredients for regional economic integration". Targeted investments in infrastructure & institutional collaboration are critical to strengthening trade ties. This is another new chapter for East Africa, PM Abiy pointed out in a tweet.

The two leaders have also inaugurated the Moyale One-Stop Border Post (OSBP). PM Abiy, said due to the OSBP, he believes "the artificial border will be dismantled with the new infrastructure. The new infrastructure will bring the two families together and tap the potential and opportunities of business and economy." Speaking to residents of Moyale town, President Kenyatta encouraged traders from both countries to utilize the new infrastructure especially the OSBP to boost cross-border trade, adding he wants "to see Moyale becoming the Dubai of this whole region, people coming here to buy goods and taking them to other countries."

PM Abiy and President Kenyatta have also visited the Lamu Port, which is a key component of the Lamu, South Sudan, Ethiopia transport corridor. PM Abiy said the visit gave him "hope that with such infrastructural investments, our regional economic integration aspirations are within reach." 

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is on an official two-day visit to Kenya, which will be concluded today.
