Ethiopia's Ministry of Revenues Collects $1.15 Mn in First Two Months of Fiscal Year

revenues-ministry-logoEthiopia's Ministry of Revenues announced that it has collected over $1.15 million (42.2 million birr) during the Ethiopian fiscal year that started July 7, 2020. This has shown a 10.7 percent increase compared to the same period of last year, the Ministry pointed out, and stands at 107 percent of the target set for the two months, which was 39.43 million birr.

In the 2013 Ethiopian budget year, the Ministry plans to collect 164.29 billion birr from domestic tax alone, which, if achieved, will be 28 percent more than the 128.67 billion birr collected during the previous fiscal year.

The Ministry attributed the improved performance in securing revenues to the higher caliber of workers at the Ministry, a positive relationship between the leadership and employees, as well as an improved culture among taxpayers of willingly coming forward to pay their taxes.

"We need to work so that we achieve even more than what we have planned to. If we are convinced we can, we will find ways of making it happen instead of devising excuses," Lake Ayalew, the Minister of Revenues remarked.

The Ministry has conducted a performance review meeting of the two months, it was announced on the Ministry's official Facebook page.
