Ethiopia has officially launched a nationwide month-long coronavirus testing campaign, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced in a tweet."Increased testing is key to knowing the trend of COVID-19 nationally so as to enable effective decision making on various fronts," PM Abiy said in a tweet.
The testing campaign will help inform "the next steps to undertake in the new [Ethiopian] year" which will begin in September.
The Prime Minister has extended his call to "all stakeholders to participate and encourage various segments of our society to get tested, in line with [the plans of the Ministry of Health]."
Ethiopia has so far conducted 437,319 coronavirus tests. Out of this, 18,706 have tested positive, 7,601 have recovered, 310 have died, and 10,793 active cases remain.
