Ethiopian Remains Largest Carrier in Africa, 4th Globally

Ethiopian Airlines Logo flagEthiopian Airlines has been ranked fourth-largest airline globally, based on the number of countries it serves. Ethiopian also remains the largest carrier in Africa in terms of the number of passengers it carries, destinations it serves, fleet size, and revenue.

Till the end of May 2019, Ethiopian has transported over 13.3 million passengers in twelve months, showing a rise of 11.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

The carrier is wholly owned by the country’s government.

Ethiopia's flag carrier Ethiopian, which is fully owned by the Ethiopian government, was founded on 21 December 1945, and started operations on 8 April 1946, expanding to international flights in 1951.

Ethiopian became a share company in 1965.
