Ethiopia has launched an online transport fee payment system that is hoped to transform the sector in several aspects.

Dagmawit Moges, Ethiopia's Transport Minister, speaking during the launching ceremony, said the new system helps avoid unnecessary physical contacts while people go for bust ticket booking in terminals. This, she added, has a "crucial role" in preventing the spread of coronavirus, in addition to modernizing the sector as it minimizes physical contact.

Using the online payment system, passengers can book tickets from their smartphones, the Ministry relates.
