Ethiopia will begin producing 5.5 million face masks per day to meet the growing demand in face masks that resulted from the recent spike in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country.

Some 67 textile factories will soon start producing 5.5 million face masks per day, Wondimu Filate, Communications Director at the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Industry pointed out. Once the local demand is met, Mr. Wondimu said, the companies will start to export face masks.

Wearing face masks has become mandatory in Ethiopia in public areas and while using public transport, in a stricter effort to control the spread of the coronavirus.
