Cup of Excellence, in partnership with Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority and USAID’s Feed the Future Ethiopia, has handed over "the Presidential Award" to three coffees each with a 90+ score in the contest. Top 28 coffees have also been announced as "winning coffees" at Ethiopia Cup of Excellence's inaugural ceremony today.
Of the three top winners, Niguse Gemeda Mude snatched the top place with a score of 91.04, followed by Rumudamo Coffee Industry Trade PLC and RumuDamo PLC with scores of 90.89 and 90.25 respectively. All the three top winners are from the Sidama Zone in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People Region.
Adugna Debela (Ph.D.), Director-General of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, speaking on the occasion, said the competition's success is owed to the commitment of the organizing team and the participating producers.
“The decision was made to move forward with the competition by adjusting to the new realities created by COVID-19. We had to move location, changing the original plan to conduct the competition in Ethiopia, and send the sample of each coffee to the jury.” Dr. Adugna noted.
