Ethiopia Inks Agreement to Build Gas Plant

The Ethiopian Ministry of Mines and Petroleum signed a joint study agreement that will enable it to build a gas processing plant in Ethiopia. The agreement has been signed with the US-based company GreenCom Technologies.

The gas processing plant the ministry aims to have built is also expected to produce petrochemicals and other industry inputs such as petroleum aviation fuel and beauty products out of natural gas.

The implementation of the gas processing project is to be carried out by GreenCom Technologies itself and Hyundai Engineering and Construction. The project's implementation is expected to cost over $3.6 billion, excluding the cost the study requires.

Out of the total budget needed to run the project, $70 million will be covered by GreenCom technologies, it was learned.

The project will include the development of 8 trillion cubic feet natural gas from six potential areas, including Calub and Hilala gas reserves sites in Ogaden, Somali region in Ethiopia.
