International Textile Machinery Exhibition Held in Ethiopia

The International Textile Machinery and Engineering Exhibition (ITME-Africa 2020) has been held at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 14 to 16 February.

Themed "Prosperity for Africa through Textile Technology," ITME is organized by Indian ITME Society in partnership with the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA).

Over 100 exhibitors from 15 African, Asian and European countries showcased their products during the exhibition. Seminars, business-to-business meetings, cultural shows, and networking dinners aimed at creating connections among the business community have been part of the event.

ITME aims to initiate "a revolution" in technology, upgrading entrepreneurship and investments in textiles across east Africa and beyond, ECCSA related. The exhibition also hopes to be instrumental in establishing Africa’s textile footprints prominently across the globe.

Being Ethiopia's second-largest investment partner as a nation with an approved investment of over $4 billion, India's total trade with Ethiopia stood at $1.27 billion in 2017-18. Out of this, a staggering $1.22 billion has been India's export to Ethiopia, while Ethiopia's export to India accounted for $45 million, as per the annual report of Ethiopia's National Bank.
