Zahara Mohammed, Enterprise Communication and Marketing Head, speaking to the Ethiopian Herald, said the amount was collected from the 4,532,197 vehicles hosted on the Addis Ababa - Adama and Dire Dawa - Dewalle expressways.

“The Enterprise earned over 181 million Birr from car toll, over 10 million from advertisement and car crane services,” Ms. Zahara said. The expressways have also played a key role in minimizing traffic accidents, she observes.

The collected revenue is 93 percent of the target the enterprise set.

The Ethiopian Toll Roads Enterprise, which operates the two expressways Ethiopia has so far, Addis Ababa - Adama and Dire Dawa - Dawalle, has created some 820 jobs. The two expressways, which are pioneer pay roads in the East African region, have been repaired recently as well to make them safer, Ms. Zahara highlighted.
