Ethiopia to Set Up Council of Economic Advisors

The Ethiopian government is to establish an independent national Council of Economic Advisors. The establishment of the Council aims to ensure the successful implementation of the recently introduced economic reform program. The economic reform program hopes to address the imbalance in macroeconomics and ensure sustainable growth.

The Office of the Prime Minister, in a statement released today, stated the Council shall have "about 15 members of high caliber who are independent and [can] provide evidence-based economic policy advice to the government on a regular basis."

The Council “will further improve the quality and transparency of economic policymaking process which, in turn, leads to designing and implementing participatory, informed and effective economic policies.”
