Ethiopia: Panel Discussion Being Held on New Excise Law

A panel discussion is being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at Skylight Hotel, discussing the newly revised excise tax law. 

Adanech Abebei, Ethiopia's Minister of Revenues, speaking during the opening of the panel discussion, said the platform has been organized to gather additional information and provide clarity on the new excise law.

Ethiopian government has been undertaking comprehensive reform programs to improve and modernize the tax collection system, Mrs. Adanech said. The reforms have yielded promising results in terms of improving the tax system, encouraging taxpayers, enhancing tax compliance and availing cost-effective tax services, the Minister highlighted.

Mrs. Adanech further pointed out that the revised law is intended to help benefit the community more in socio-economy by increasing the amount of revenue collected from tax; It would also increase Ethiopia’s competitiveness in international export markets by expanding the tax base and eliminating double taxation.

Present at the panel are representatives of the business community, the media, and other stakeholders.
