Ethiopian Shipping Enterprise Collects $57.8 Mn Profit in 2018/19

The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE) said it has garnered a profit of $57.84 billion (1.7 billion birr) during the 2018/19 Ethiopian fiscal year which ended on July 7, 2019.

Roba Megersa, ESLSE’s CEO, while making the announcement, pointed out that the enterprise transported some 4.5 million tons of goods during the year, two million tons of which is accounted for by imported fertilizers and wheat.

Mr. Roba listed shortage of foreign currency, delay in the construction of the 120km Ethiopia-Djibouti road project, congestion at dry ports, and administrative and logistics problems as some of the challenges faced by the enterprise.

The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Enterprise expects to transport 7.7 million tons of goods in the newly started Ethiopian fiscal year.
