A 4 billion birr steel factory is to be built in the city of Bahir Dar, Amhara region of Ethiopia, by Abay Industrial Development Share Company.

Melaku Alebel, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Company, told FBC the factory will produce materials that are essential for the construction industry. Besides meeting the local demand, the factory is set to export its products to neighboring countries, he added.

The factory is expected to go operational in two and a half years.
