Ethiopia, Japan Sign $2.8 Mn Grant Agreement

Ethiopia and Japan inked a $2.8 million grant agreement that will be used to provide medical equipment in hospitals in Addis Ababa. The grant is part of support for Ethiopia’s socio-economic development.

Signing the agreement were Admasu Nebebe, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance, and Daisuke Matsunaga, Japan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia. Mr. Admasu, speaking on the occasion, noted the grant agreement will support to improve quality of primary health care delivery and treatment services in Ethiopia’s hospitals. He mentioned the agreement include, among other things, dispensing medical equipment to universities and teaching hospitals both for clinical and teaching purposes.

Ambassador Matsunaga, for his part, said Japan has been actively supporting the development of Ethiopia and will continue its development assistance for Ethiopia, particularly in the health sector.
