ILO Launches Program to Help Ethiopia with Focus on Apparel Industry

The International Labour Organization (ILO) recently launched a program to encourage and endorse decent work and inclusive industrialization in Ethiopia. The initial focus of the program is on textile and clothing industry.

The ILO program has been launched in an event jointly coordinated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Confederations of Trade Unions of Ethiopia, the Confederation of Businessmen of Ethiopia and the Confederation of Businessmen of the Ethiopian Industry.

The primary goal of the programme is to develop strategies to improve respect for workers’ rights, resulting in greater incomes and compensation, as well as enhanced safety, equality, voice and representation.

Furthermore, the program aims to increase the productivity and competitiveness of industry to enable the global competitive textile and clothing sector and to promote responsible and transparent governmental institutions.
