Ethiopia Forecasts 9.2 Percent Economic Growth

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that Ethiopia’s economy is projected to grow by 9.2 percent for the 2011 Ethiopian fiscal year, 2018/19 G.C. The growth rate has shown a rise of 1.5 percent compared to last year.

Prime Minister Abiy made the announcement as he presented his annual report to the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR), which emphasized sustaining peace and security, democracy, economic development, and diplomacy issues.

Domestic demand and supply is also estimated to remain robust, supported by the recent reform policies to boost economic growth, he stated. In the preceding fiscal year, he noted, some 1.4 million new jobs have been created.

So far as the economy is concerned, the prime minister reassured the MPs that his government will work more on modernizing agriculture, developing the tourism sector and encouraging private sector involvement in the coming fiscal year.
