Ethiopia-EU business forum has opened in Brussels, Belgium today. Hosting the two-day event which will be concluded tomorrow is the European Commission.

Abebe Abebayehu, Commisioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC), said the forum brings together European investors that showed interest to invest in Ethiopia, in addition to participants from the Ethiopian private sector.

Jyrki Katainen, Vice President of the European Commission, remarking that Ethiopia is a strategic partner of the European Union, went on to call on investors to explore investment opportunities in Ethiopia. Mr. Katainen also noted that the EU has allocated significant funding for external investment.

Volkswagen and Unilever will discuss the “vast opportunities” available in Ethiopia in as an investment destination, the EIC commissioner noted.

According to the Commissioner, executives from Volkswagen and Unilever discussed the vast opportunities Ethiopia avails as an investment destination.

Large market, abundant and competitive labor, and huge potential for local sourcing of raw materials are among the top pull factors for investing in Ethiopia, Mr. Abebe highlighted.
