Maatouk Holdings Looks to Invest in Ethiopian Coffee

Samira Maatouk, President and CEO of Maatouk Holdings, the leading coffee manufacturer in the Middle East, said she will come to Addis in June hoping to explore investment opportunities in Ethiopian coffee.

The announcement came after Suleiman Dedefo, Ambassador of Ethiopia to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), visited the company looking for ways to encourage Maatouk Holdings’ investment in Ethiopia and to discuss ways in which the company can increase its import of Ethiopian coffee. Maatouk Holdings is one of the major buyers of Ethiopian coffee.\

Ambassador Suleiman has briefed Mrs. Maatouk on the variety of flavors Ethiopian coffee presents, along with the nature of the coffee sector in the country. Mrs. Maatouk’s plan to visit Ethiopia next month will be comprised of visit to coffee growing areas and meeting with coffee farmers seeking ways of obtaining more Ethiopian coffee to the global market, she said.

Maatouk Holdings’ CEO also hopes to cement an investment agreement between her company and the Ethiopian government during her visit, enabling her company to invest in Ethiopia. On the flip side, the investment will help Ethiopia supply processed coffee products to the global market, while ensuring the coffee farmers get fair prices for their products, apart from creating employment.
