abiy-meets-wb-presidentEthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met with David Malpass, World Bank Group President and his delegation at his office. The meeting came as part of the first of three-legged African trip of the World Bank president since he assumed the position on April 9, 2019.

Ethiopia, Mozambique and Madagascar are the three African destinations on the World Bank Group President’s current trip.

Noting that Ethiopia is currently laying a solid foundation with the economic reforms, Mr. Malpass affirmed World Bank’s continued partnership, the Office of the Prime Minister said in a tweet. The World Bank Group is an important source of finance for Ethiopia’s development efforts, the tweet further noted.

“We must increase Africa’s development momentum to foster broad-based growth, raise median incomes, create jobs, tackle climate resilience, and incorporate women and young people in economies,’ David Malpass said.

World Bank approved $1.2 billion in grants and loans to Ethiopia in October, 2018, with the intent of supporting Ethiopia’s economic growth and its ongoing reforms.
