A high-level trade and investment forum between Ethiopia and Kenya was held in Addis Ababa. The forum, with the theme “Strengthening Economic and Trade partnership”,’ aimed at boosting the existing economic partnership between the two countries, it was learned.
Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ethiopian Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu attended the opening of the two-day forum. Attending the forum were over 100 representatives of various Kenyan businesses. The Kenyan businesses hope to benefit from enhanced bilateral trade and investment ties between Ethiopia and Kenya.
PM Abiy pointed out the opening up of Ethiopia’s business space and the ongoing economic reforms as catalysts for strengthening trade relations between the two neighbors. President Kenyatta, on his part, said, the aspirations of Ethiopia and Kenya towards development, integration, regional peace and security is exemplary and commendable.
Cathering Mwangi, Kenya’s ambassador to Ethiopia, said the said economic reforms have “given the confidence to the Kenyan businesspeople that Ethiopia is now open for business.”
