Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the Hawassa Industry Park.The Hawassa Industry Park is considered a flagship project of Ethiopia’s aggressive move of setting up industry parks across the country.
Located some 275 kilometers out south of Addis Ababa, in the outskirts of the city of Hawassa, the Hawassa Industry Park houses 22 leading manufacturers in textile and apparel. These manufacturers employ 25 thousand workers.
The office of the Prime Minister mentioned sector specialization, export orientation, vertical integration, sustainability and skills development as general features of Ethiopia’s sprouting industry parks.
Ethiopia aims to have 30 industry parks by 2025.
