Delegates from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) met and discussed with Eyob Tekalign (PhD), Ethiopian Minister of Finance.
The discussion focused on how Japan can assist the transformation Ethiopia is implementing, and how Japanese investors can use the opportunity to invest in Ethiopia.
The delegates expressed their positive outlook towards Ethiopia’s current reform, vowing readiness to support and share their country’s experience with regards to major development endeavors. They also disclosed that several Japanese investors are keen to invest in Ethiopia. They further indicated that the investors they are referring to are especially interested in the automotive industry, citing Toyota motors.
Dr. Eyob, the Minister of Finance, applauded the timeliness of Japan’s engagement and support, saying their country’s experience is “critically important for Ethiopia to learn from.” This, he noted, will have a phenomenal role in making the reform a success. He further elaborated to the delegates on the profound nature of the economic and political reform Ethiopia is undergoing. He called on the private sector, particularly those in the automotive industry, to invest in Ethiopia.
