Ethiopia Attracted USD 4.1 billion FDI

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Ethiopia attracted USD 4.1 billion foreign direct investment (FDI) in the 2017/18 fiscal year. According to the Ministry’s spokesman Ato Meles Alem, the country was able to draw 156 big companies whose combined capital is over 4.1 billion US dollars.

The spokesman said this achievement was attributable to the successful economic diplomacy executed by embassies and consular offices. Ato Meles also stated that since the country was gaining back its stability, the government was working to draw more FDI in the current fiscal year.

The spokesman said that the Diaspora community had planned to increase their engagement with the country and that other countries were also showing interest to work together with Ethiopia. He also stated that an Ethiopian delegation led by senior government officials would take part in the 2018 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation next month. The cooperation involves 52 African countries.
