Ethiopia: Deputy Prime Minister Appointed as MeTEC New Chairman

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister has appointed a new board chairman for Metals and Engineering Corporation (MeTEC), Demeke Mekonnen. Deputy Prime Minister. Demeke replaced Siraj Fergessa, Minister of Defense.

The newly appointed chairman’s CV shows that he has served as Minister of Education for 5 years. He is also the current chairman of Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM).

The board of directors, according to Fortune, includes the newly appointed deputy chair of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), Fetleworq G. Egziyabher, Chief of Staff, Samora Yenus (Gen.), Ahmed Abitew, minister of Industry, and Siraj. On the other hand, the head of the Corporation is Kinfe Dagnew (Major Gen.)

It was 8 years back that the Corporation was established. The aim was to enhance small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the manufacturing industry. It currently administers 70 enterprises.

MeTEC is currently under the spotlight for 10 delayed projects it is undertaking under the Ethiopian Sugar Corporation.
