Ethiopia Ranked 161 from 190 Countries in Ease of Doing Business

Ethiopia’s rank on the ease of doing business, prepared by World Bank, has not changed for another year and it now stands at 161st from 190 countries.

According to Fortune, Ethiopia has not seen much improvement in the last 7 years when it comes to facilitating business. Its rank fell from 104, where it stood back in 2010, and it now is ranked 161st for 2 consecutive years.

The report is said to provide comparative overview of the business climate in the 190 nations that are included in the report.

According to the report, it is easier to undertake business in Rwanda and Kenya that are ranked 41 and 80 respectively. The report further read that Ethiopia was the 16th and 17th worst country in the world to start a business and to get credit, respectively.

It was only a month back that the Ethiopian government disclosed the nation’s economy has grown by 10.9 percent in the past fiscal year. Furthermore, few months back, the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development (UNCTAD) reported that Ethiopia attracted 3.2 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2016, which is a 46 percent growth rate from the preceding year. This made Ethiopia the highest FDI recipient in African.
