Ethiopia and Djibouti Signed Immigration and Customs Treaty

Two Horn of Africa countries, Ethiopia and Djibouti, signed immigration and custom treaty in the aim of accelerating Ethiop-Djibouti railway transport service which is scheduled to start giving service in the near future.

It was on October 30, 2017 that the treaty was signed in Djibouti by the 2 countries’ ministers of transport.

Commenting on the development Ahmed Shide, Ethiopia’s Minister of Transport, said the agreement would enhance efficiency in the service provided for passengers and avoid unnecessary waste of time associated with travel document.

The railway that stretched from Ethiopia to Djibouti is an electrified double-track railway. It is said to be the first of its kind in the Sub-Saharan Africa. The railway is scheduled to start giving service in November.
