Ethiopia generated 215 million USD from the export of coffee in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. However, the performance has missed the target set for the period – 245 million USD.
As per the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Development and Marketing Authority, the income generated was from 55,825 tons of coffee exported. Nevertheless, the plan was to export 56,550 tons.
Out of the entire export earnings of the country, coffee generated 25 percent of it.
Even if the export of coffee has not managed to hit the target set, the performance shows a 34 million USD increase when it is compared to previous year’s first quarter performance.
The plan is to generate 1.1 billion USD from the export of 270,000 tons of coffee by the end of the current fiscal year. Last year’s performance, on the other hand, shows Ethiopia made 882 million USD from the export of 225,000 tons of coffee.
