Export of cement has earned Ethiopia 14.2 million USD in the past 11 months of the current fiscal year, Chemical & Construction Inputs Industry Development Institute (CCIIDI). The export destination for the cement products are neighboring countries Kenya, Somalia and Djibouti.
The Institution disclosed this fact after a week Dangote Cement PLC’s owner, Aliko Dangote, threatened to close down its cement factory over a dispute on who should a quarry.
It was back in May 2015 that Dangote started production after investing a capital of 2.6 billion Birr. Its factory is located in Mugher in Adebem Woreda, Oromia State.
Currently there are 20 cement factories in Ethiopia. They have a total production capacity of 2.5 million tons per annum.
