Ethiopia’s under construction electrified railway project, Awash-Kombolcha-Woldia Hara Gebeya, has reached 57 percent completion rate. The project reached this stage in 2 years time.
The project is being undertaken by Turkish Yapi Mekezi Company for an outlay of 1.7 billion USD.
Currently, according to Fana Broadcasting Corporation, there are 2 companies from Ethiopia that are trying to be sub-contracted for the project.
According to Dereje Tefera, Communications Director at the Ethiopian Railways Corporation, the line would be used to transport passengers and freight. In addition to serving as an alternative means of transport, the railway would address the transportation problems, he added.
When it comes to creating job opportunities the railway project has created job opportunities for more than 4,200 people.
First phase of the project would start test run by the end of August, Dereje noted.
