Ethiopian Standards Agency (ESA) disclosed 706 standards that are under 8 categories have been approved. According to the Director General of the Agency, Endalew Mekonnen, among the 706 standards, 293 of them are new.

Construction and engineering, basic and general standards are among the categories approved, the Director General explained.

All approved standards are in consonance with the national development strategies and priorities stipulated in Ethiopia’s development program, Endalew noted.

The Director General further explained that the appropriate application of the approved standards would have great impact in the industry, manufacturing and trade sectors. This would be achieved by promoting the quality of products and commodities, he added. Other than these, community’s health and safety, it would contribute immensely to protecting the environment and customer satisfaction and benefits.
