Ethiopia to Expand Modjo Dry Port

Ethiopia’s Government disclosed it will undertake expansion project on Modjo Dry Port over 138 hectares of land, has begun. The project is aimed to increase the efficiency of trade logistics in Ethiopia.

According to Modojo Dry Port’s terminal operation manager, Teklehaimanot Araya, the expansion project will commence in the coming fiscal year after the preparation of a master plan is completed.

The project would be financed by 155 million USD loan obtained from World Bank, Teklehaimanot explained. Oromia State granted 138 hectares of land required for the expansion, he added.

So far farmers relocated because of the expansion project were paid 2.5 million Birr, Garedew Awoke, an engineer at the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise, explained. More than 300 people relocated were also employed, he furthered.

Before the current expansion project, the port undertook expansion on 62 hectares of land.
