Ethiopia: ERA Signed 3 Agreements Worth 2.7 Billion Birr

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) concluded contracts with 3 different local companies for the construction and upgrade 3 roads at an outlay of 2.7 billion Birr. The companies that signed the agreement with ERA Afro Tsion Construction PLC, Rama Construction PLC and Orchid Business Group.

The roads are going to be in 3 different states; Oromia, Gambella and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples (SNNP). According to Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FBC), the roads will stretch for a total of 201.35 kilometers.

One of the contracts stipulates Afro Tsion and Rama will jointly construct Turmi – Omo road which will stretch for 63.35 kilometers and it is located in SNNP. This agreement is said to be worth 769.8 million Birr. The 2 construction companies will also construct the 60 kilometers road Robe – Gasera road located in Oromia. This project, on the other hand is said to be undertaken at an outlay of 897.5 million Birr.

The contract with Orchid is for the construction of the 78 kilometers road Gambella-Eliya road for an outlay of 1.29 billion Birr.

According to FBC, the construction of all 3 road projects is scheduled to be finalized in 3 years time.

Commenting on the development ERA’s Director General, Araya Girmay, said the construction of the roads would help boost the socio-economic benefit of the residents.

In the past 8 months ERA awarded road construction agreements for 25 different projects that stretch for 1,440 kilometers.
