Ezana Mining Development, mining company from Ethiopia, commenced pilot production in Tigray State in its newly built plant.
According to Fortune, the plant is located in Asegde Tsimbila Wereda, North Tigray Zone. The construction was undertaken by Mesfin Industrial Engineering for 700 million Birr and it is said to have the capacity of producing 4.5 kilogram of gold per day.
Ezana is an affiliate of Endowment Fund for Rehabilitation of Tigray (EFFORT) and it was founded in 1990’s with a capital of 14 million Birr. Ever since it has been conducting mining exploration for more twenty days.
Ethiopia in the last fiscal year earned 291 million USD from the export of gold. This performance was 9 percent lower when compared to the preceding year.
Currently there are 4 gold mining companies with extraction license. Nevertheless, there are more than 80 companies at exploration state.
