Nestle, the global nutrition, health and wellness Company, disclosed it is considering to establish a manufacturing plant in Ethiopia within the coming years. However, final decision for the investment has not yet been made.
Commenting on the matter cluster manager of Nestle for the Horn of Africa and the Equatorial African Region, Wosenyeleh S. Fikre, confirmed that the company intended to set up a manufacturing plant in Ethiopia.
If the plant was set up, it would be expected to focus on dairy and dairy products, Wosenyeleh explained. Nevertheless, he added, availability, quality and health standards in these sectors might deter the process of setting up a manufacturing plant. Because of these reasons, Nestle is now working to start a packaging unit for its dairy products as a way of testing the waters, he furthered.
In a related development, Nestle has appointed the retired long distance runner Haile Gebreselassie as its brand ambassador in Ethiopia.
