The fare rate for meter taxis in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, has been set on February 8, 2017. The fares have been set by the Addis Ababa City Transport Authority to be 10 Birr per kilometer for the four-seat taxis and 13 Birr per kilometer for the seven-seat taxis.
The fare is going to be effective starting from February 9, 2017.
According to Mitiku Gebisa, Communication Officer of the Authority, these rates would be effective only until 22:00 military time. Starting from 22:01, the fare would increase by 50 percent – meaning the 10 Birr per kilometer fare would be 15 Birr, he furthered.
The taxis were installed with fare calculator software that would issue receipts to passengers at the end of every trip, the Communication Officer explained.
There were works undertaken to monitor the flow of the service, including free call center – ‘888’ – set up to deal with any problem that created inconvenience, Mitiku added.
