City Government in Ethiopian Capital to Handover 10,000 Condos

An estimated 10,000 condominium houses will be transferred over the next two months, to owners in the Ethiopian capital according to Kuma Demeksa, Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration.

The condominium houses built at the Summit site will be transferred to new owners selected by random draws as well as to people relocated by the redevelopment projects currently underway in the city said Kuma.  

The new condos are in the final phase of construction awaiting finishing work such as painting, sewage systems, installation of water and electric lines said the Mayor.

Another 17,000 condominium houses are already under construction as of the last budget explained Kuma. These condos will be completed for transfer to owners by April he said. 

An estimated 40,000 condominium houses will begin construction in Addis Ababa City in the present fiscal year according to Kuma. It is expected that more than 72,000 people will be employed by the construction project he said.   

In related news 9,322 condominium houses are under construction in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s (SNNP) State according to Yenework Kumlachew, Public Relations Expert of State’s Trade, Industry and Urban Development Bureau.

It is expected that a majority of the condominium houses, to be built in eight towns in the region, will be completed and transferred to owners this fiscal year said Yenework. The remaining condos will be finished next year he added.

The Southern regional state has constructed 5,269 condominium houses transferred to owners in the past five years according to sources.
