Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) disclosed it is undertaking preparations in the aim of building a national load dispatch center. The center is financed by a 40 million Euros loan French Development Agency (FDA) extended to Ethiopia.
Now that the construction of Gilgel Gibe III has been finalized, the nation’s current power generation capacity has exceeded 4,000 megawatts. This calls for a safe and secure grid operation which means modern load dispatch hub.
Commenting on the matter Engineer Azeb Asnake, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EEP, said the load dispatch would enhance control and transmit power to the required area from 1 center. It also signaled when there is power transmission networks are damaged, which enables EEP to respond promptly, she added.
According to the CEO, EEP is currently preparing bid documents and selecting sites for the construction of the center.
Once construction is commenced it will be finalized in 2 years, she furthered.
