Ethiopia: New Payment and Ticketing System for Trans State Bus Travelers

Kifya Financial Technology introduced new payment and ticketing service for travelers using cross state transit buses from Ethiopia’s capital. The system became operational on Saturday, December 10, 2016 and it has made Kifya in charge of the billing system for public transport across Ethiopia.

The service will enable travelers to book and buy tickets in advance of their travel dates.

According to Fortune, Federal Transport Authority (FTA) is going to facilitate the link between Kifya and the bus associations. The system allows ticket buyers to pay their bus fares at 1 of the 5 terminals in the capital city; Atobis Tera, Asko, Ayertena, Qality and Lamberet. This changed the trend where travelers will have to go to the specific terminal where the transit bus would start its trek.

New purchase points and Lehulu centers would also be opened in various parts of Addis Ababa. Thes points and centers would start providing ticketing services.

The new system will have more than 1500 buses under the new brand Ager Aquwarach Bus.

FTA also disclosed it will commence giving the new ticketing service in regional cities.
