Ethiopia and Djibouti concluded an agreement in the aim of establishing a company that will manage Ethio-Djibouti Railway. The agreement was signed by Ahmed Shide, Ethiopia’s Transport Minister, and his Djiboutian counterpart, Mohammed Abdulkadir Musa.
The company’s headquarters is going to be in Addis Ababa. It will undertake tasks such as providing passenger and cargo transportation service and maintaining the railway.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the infrastructure is going to be owned by both countries. The countries have also agreed to make the price competitive and the service efficient.
The 2 countries have also agreed tariffs for transporting passengers and goods would be decided by Ethio-Djibouti Joint Commission. The Commission will be led by the 2 countries transport ministries.
In addition to this, the Commission is also tasked with promptly removing challenges which obstruct the efficiency of the railway and transporting exports of Ethiopia.
