Ethiopian Airlines to Start Code Sharing with Singapore Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines announced that it will start code sharing with Singapore Airlines as of November 01, 2011. This agreement allows the two carriers to provide joint flight services between Addis Ababa and Singapore through Dubai.

Ethiopian Airlines further announced that the tickets for the code share flight will be available for sale immediately. The agreement between the two international carriers allows passengers to have wider range of flight services between Africa and Asia.

The agreement establishes that Ethiopian Airlines will code share on Singapore Airlines flights between Singapore and Dubai and the Singapore Airlines will code share on Ethiopian Airlines flights between Addis Ababa and Dubai.

Ethiopian Airlines has 20 flights to Dubai every week and it is expected that the agreement with Singapore Airlines and cooperation with between the two carriers will enhance customer services according to the press release by the Airlines.

Ethiopian Airlines is extending its flight network through code sharing with different carriers around the world to allow its customers an extensive range of choices.

Singapore Airlines is a member of Star Alliance. Ethiopian Airlines is expected to be fully integrated into the Star Alliance as of this month. The process took over a year and 6.9 million dollars which has not been paid in full yet.

The airlines had to fulfill 83 criteria, including IT compliance, to earn full membership of the alliance. Ethiopian is the third African airline to join the Star Alliance after South African Air (SAA) and Egypt Air.
