Metal Engineering Industry Development Institute disclosed the demand for electronics and engineering products made in Ethiopia is increasing to which in response the country has been expanding its market. The Institute earned 22.7 million USD by exporting products to the USA, Africa, Europe and Asia.
Commenting on the issue Fitte Bekele, the Institute’s Communication Director, said the electronics and engineering products were proving to be competitive in the international arena. The institute expanded its market to Yemen, India, Kenya, Djibouti, United Arab Emirates, Togo, Somaliland, Morocco, South Sudan and Denmark in the just concluded fiscal year.
According to the Director, revenue from the export of products for last year’s surpasses the year before it by 7 million USD. Out of these revenue, some 50 percent of it was earned from the export of cellular phones and trolleys to Nigeria, Rwanda, Togo, Somaliland, Morocco, South Sudan, Yemen and Djibouti.
Fitte explained the Institute has also exported several electric and telecom related products to turkey, Dubai, Denmark and India. In addition to this, the Director furthered, cables and jewels were exported to USA.
It was only in 2013 started exporting engineering products started, during which the nation earned 3.2 million USD.
