During his visit to Kenya, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Hailemariam Dessalegn, concluded an oil pipeline deal with Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta. The deal is for the construction of crude pipeline from Lamu, a coastal town in Kenya, to Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.
The construction of the pipeline is expected to integrate the 2 Horn of Africa countries. The project is part of joint infrastructure regional projects under the Lamu Port-Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (Lapsset) corridor.
According to Fortune, there was another agreement signed between Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda stated crude pipeline would be constructed taking Hoima – Lokichar – Lamu route. However, Ethiopia and Kenya when concluding their latest agreement did not mention anything about the previous deal that includes Uganda.
Kenyatta and Hailemariam disclosed that the Lamu – Addis Ababa project is expected to be concluded by the end of 2016.
