Ethiopia’s public notary office, Document Authentication and Registration Agency, disclosed it has started giving online sales contract service. According to the new Agency’s Director, Meressa Gebreyohannes, the online sales contract service is only for transactions concerning houses and cars.

Meressa furthered that the service was only on trial bases and it could only be accessed at the Agency’s headquarter and Addisu Gebeya branch. Nevertheless, once the pilot program was proved successful, the service will be expanded to other branches, he added.

The new service is expected to replace paper works and also save time, money as well as unnecessary hustle. It would also tackle illicit practices related to nullified contracts since the Agency’s employees from every branch can access the information, Meressa explained.

The Agency previously gave online service for agency contracts and it would continue providing technology assisted services to its client, the Director noted. However, the number of people using the service is below expected due to skill gaps and lack of information regarding the service.
