Ethiopia: Chinese Pharmaceutical Manufacture to Invest 2 Billion Birr

The Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Humanwell Healthcare, is set to invest 2 billion Birr in Ethiopia and construct a plant.

The factory is expected to be constructed in Amhara State, Hageremariam Kesem District, which is 65 kilometers north of Ethiopia’s capital. The plant once it goes operational it will be producing tablets, capsules, injections and syrups.

The plant is scheduled to be finalized and start operation in 2 years time.

Commenting on the development State Minister for Industry, Mebratu Belese (PhD), said “When the plant is completed, the prices of medicine for locals will be low”.

According to Fortune, there are currently 22 pharmaceutical and medical suppliers and manufacturers. Out of these 9 of them are directly involved in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products.
