Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) concluded an agreement with Tata Group for the installation of transmission line in the Northern part of Ethiopia. The transmission line is going to stretches 403 kilometer and is estimated to cost 106.4 million USD. The project is scheduled to be concluded in a year and a half.
The transmission line is going to be constructed from Bahir Dar II substation to Kombolcha III substation via Woldiya II substation.
The contract was signed by Azeb Asnake (Engineer), Chief Executive Officer of (CEO) of EEP, on EEP’s part and by Abhik Pal, Head of Business Development at Tata Group, on Tata’s side.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, 77 percent of the project’s cost is going to be covered by a loan secured from Export Import Bank of India. The difference is going to be covered by the Ethiopian government.
Azeb explained the power transmission lines are being installed in order to satisfy the power demand of the country during the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) period.
