Ethiopia earned 80 million USD from the export of mutton and chevon in the past 10 months of the current fiscal year. Such was disclosed by Ethiopian Meat Producer-Exporters Association (EMPEA).
According to Abeba Mekonnen, Secretary General of the Association, during the period Ethiopia exported 15,500 tons of meat to Middle East countries. The performance showed an increase of 100 tons when compared to last year’s same period performance, he added.
The revenue also showed 4 million USD increase when compared to the previous year’s 10 months performance, the Secretary General explained.
Currently EMPEA exports an average of 50 tons of meat every day. According to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, the Association aims to boost the export volume to 80 tons in connection to the Ramadan.
EMPEA was established in back in August 2004 and it now has 11 members who have their own export abattoirs.
