Ethiopia: Restaurants, Lodges and Motels to Be Rated

Restaurants, lodges and motels in Ethiopia are going to be rated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The rating is going to be based on the level of services they provide for which they will be rated from 1 to 5 stars.

The rating is expected to cover around 80 restaurants and 30 resorts across the nation.

According to Capital, the assessment parameters will cover physical characteristics such as location, dimensions of the rooms, supplies in the bathrooms and frequency of change of linen, as well as non-tangible elements such as style, elegance, comfort, finish and luxury.

In addition to these, the Ministry is expected to take into account social contact such as staff grooming and communication skills. Equipping the place with installation that will satisfy the needs of the disabled will also be included.

Nonetheless, the Ministry has not yet decided if it will carry out the rating itself or if it will assign an independent company.

The rating is said to be used as a mechanism to assure quality in service provision for the tourist destination. It will also provide tourists with information regarding what they can expect from a particular restaurant and lodge. Owners on their part can use it as a guide for the service, facilities and standards expected of them.
